- Updates are not installed successfully from Windows
Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you perform a new Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows
XP installation.
There are few common causes for problems with the Windows Update
service.
- First double check the date and time on your computer. If they
are too far off, Windows Update will not work.
- Another common problem is that there is a problem with the Windows

- The computer used to be part of a domain and was not properly
removed from the network before it was taken out of service for
use without the domain. This will sometimes cause an "Access is
denied" error when trying to do updates or you can not start the
